We have been really enjoying learning rugby skills and playing games of tag rugby with Phil.
Rob has been coaching us for tennis in PE and our skills are getting better each session.
Class 4 have been exploring the 'Big Story' of Salvation. They did this by using the artist Emma Yarlett's 'Big Frieze' from Understanding Christianity. Using their prior knowledge, they managed to identify and work out the order of the 8 core concepts and the relationships between them.
Christmas Escape Room
We were recruited as elves to help Santa save Christmas! We had to use teamwork and problem solving skills to solve the clues to find out the name of the child that Santa had forgotten. We used our knowledge of light and reflection to read "mirror writing" and spotted similes falling like snowflakes! There were lots of puzzles to solve but we all managed to crack the code to find the name of the child and save Christmas. It was so much fun!
In class 4, we always look forward to our annual ice skating trip and this year it was lovely to have class 3 joining us too! The day after we went ice skating we had more winter fun when we had a playtime out in the snow!
Design and Technology
Our task for this half term was to design and build a shelter fit to withstand the Lake District weather! We built structures out of paper first, to see what shapes and sizes worked the best. We then tested different materials for strength and durability and to see how waterproof they were. This allowed us to make an informed decision about what materials would be best to use for our final structure. Building our shelters got very messy! Lots of problem solving was involved when things did not go quite how we expected but we showed fantastic perseverance! The shelters will be tested soon, watch this space!
In our RE lessons, we have been learning about Advent and why it is important to Christians. We produced some lovely Advent crafts. We also made some decorations for the village Christmas tree, we can't wait to see them on display!
We also enjoyed making Christmas puppets and paper chains. It was lots of fun measuring how long our chains were!
It is lovely to see our work on the walls and it shows how hard we have been working since September!
In PE we have been developing our strength and conditioning with our multi-skills coach, Reece. We have enjoyed taking parts in all of the different activities.
This year for our Harvest Festival, we looked at foods from around the world. It was interesting to find out how far food travels to reach our plate and how lucky we are to have access to foods from all around the world.
We have learned a lot about netball this term. Miss Hutton from Cockermouth School came to teach us netball skills in PE and we were also lucky enough to attend a netball coaching afternoon at Cockermouth school.
In science, we have been learning about electricity and the different components in a circuit. We really enjoyed making our own circuits and investigating how they work.
We aim to be active for 30 minutes everyday at school. We do this by completing exercises and activities throughout the day. This includes running for 10 minutes, skipping and squats/lunges. We are definitely getting fitter!
Class 4 have had great fun exploring the Christian Value of Trust in their RE lesson. They took part in different activities to learn what qualities are needed to put your 'trust' in someone, to be considered 'trustworthy' and to learn when to 'trust' yourself.
