ABSENCES

All absences from school must be explained by parents.  The school requires that parents should contact the school early on each day of a child’s absence.  This will allow the school not only to record reasons for absence as required by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), but also to ascertain that the child is not in school for legitimate reasons.  Department for Education regulations now say that all unexplained absences must be recorded as unauthorised

Family Holidays

A reminder, due to a change in the law, the Headteacher is no longer able to give permission for your child to go on holiday during school time. If you still choose to book a holiday during term time, your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised and this does not reflect well for the school and may hamper your child's learning. As with all absences you will still need to inform the school as to why your child has not attended. If you still choose for your child to go on holiday then please do not ask the class teacher for ‘work’ during your absence as it is not their fault your child is not in school.

Sickness & Diarrhoea

If your child has a bout of sickness or diarrhoea then please keep them off school for 48hrs after the last episode to ensure that germs are not spread throughout school.

Head Lice

If your child should get head lice during their time in school, please treat them as soon as possible and inform school so we can confidentially ask other parents to be vigilant and check their child’s hair to prevent spreading.

Other Useful Information

Change of Contact Details

If you have changed your Mobile Phone number, email or other contact details over the summer, please remember to inform the office so we can reach you in an emergency and you can receive texts.

Jewellery

Due to Health and Safety regulations, jewellery should not be worn in school at any time. If you wish to have your child’s ears pierced then please could you wait until the beginning of the summer holidays so that they have had a chance to heal before term starts again, otherwise you will be asked to remove them. The wearing of watches are acceptable but must be removed for P.E.

Cyclists and Scooters

If your child comes to school on their bike or scooter, please ensure they are wearing an appropriate safety helmet and reflective clothing and ensure they are aware of how to keep safe. Bike ability training and testing takes place in school when your child is in Year 5.
