Who's Who - Governors
GOVERNORS: WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY DO
They share the school's vision of 'Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path' which permeates through all we do.
The purpose of having a governing body is:
- To help the school to set high standards by planning for the school’s future, and setting targets for school improvement;
- To keep the pressure up on school improvement;
- To be a true friend to the school, in good and bad times, offering the school its support and advice (critical friend);
- To help the school to be responsive to the needs of parents and the community and make the school more accountable to the public for what it does.
Being an effective governor
Effective governors:
- Do their homework, and get to know their school;
- Turn up regularly;
- Ask questions that are probing without being confrontational;
- Don’t go it alone;
- Recognise good work and support their school;
- Are not afraid to be critical when necessary.
