School Council

‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path ’

Psalm 119:105

Our school council 2023-24 - the children below are this year's school councillors - they have been chosen to represent their year group by either their classmates or their teachers.
Children In Need 2023! Pyjama day and cake sale organised by the school council.
Planting trees to celebrate the Queens's Platinum Jubilee. We loved this activity but couldn't have managed it without the help of Tony Edwards - Grandad to Noah and Arthur. We planted Rowan, Crab apple and Hazel trees - all within the school grounds. Our school councillors were short on numbers so we co-opted Georgia and Isabella in to help.
Our first school council initiative was to organise a collection for our local food bank. Stuart came to deliver a collective worship all about celebrating Harvest. The school council then presented all the food our very kind and generous families have donated. Stuart w@s so grateful.
In November we ran the cake sale for Children in Need. It was well supported and all the cakes were much enjoyed. Thank you to the parents of the school councillors who baked.
Fund raising on St Bridget's Day 2020 - we tried to replicate the kindness of St Bridget by dressing up in our pyjamas to help Harvey Park raise money for new bedding for the children's Ward at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

In October we were given some purple crocus bulbs from the Rotary Club. Some of the Rotary members are actively involved in our school life: Bev and the two Johns (as they are known to the children) hear readers every Monday afternoon. But on Monday 28th October reading was replaced by planting these beautiful bulbs to mark World Polio Day which was celebrated nationally the eek before. We are so lucky in this country that this cruel disease is non existent but in other parts of the world, life instance India, Polio is rife and causing much heart ache and suffering. We were further joined by Brigham Gardeners who organised the planting on our school grounds.

School council 2018-19

Our school councillors are voted in by their classmates. This year they are: Grace, Naomi, Lexi, Finn, Nathan, Imy, Stanley, Willow, Lewis and Joel. Our first task this year was to raise awareness of our local food bank. We asked the Cockermouth Food Bank to come in and tell us all about the initiative. From this we decided to collect food during our Harvest preparations and celebrations. We then arranged a visit to the food bank. The following photographs are a record of what we got up to.

Celebrating Children in Need

We asked our classmates how they wanted to celebrate the day. The majority of he children wanted to come to school in their pyjamas. We also held a cake sale. The cakes were baked by Mrs Hemingway, Mrs Taylor and the families of the school councillors - thank you so much.

The cake sale was popular.
