Theme Week Dance Session
As part of our theme week ‘Our Wider World’ Miss Zoe led a dance session on this theme. The children were able to try on some traditional dresses and then they learnt a traditional Ukrainian dance.

We mixed, whisked, sprinkled, poured and rolled to create these delicious spring rolls with Phunky Foods!
Recognising and finding half of objects and shapes!
The children demonstrated their knowledge of the parts of a plant by creating these fabulous collages.
A wonderful experience for our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children this morning. We met Wendy and Sue from Christ Church in Broughton at the Methodist Chapel in Brigham to help us perform a mock baptism. Baby Oliver was lovingly cradled by mum and dad throughout the service and some responsible Godparents were chosen to help guide Oliver through his Christian life. We learnt about the different stages of a baptism service and the symbols that you would see, like the holy water and the candle.
Happy birthday Jigsaw Jo! Well done to class 2 who were very good at keeping a 'Good' secret from Jo. He did enjoy the chocolate fingers! We also talked about some other 'Good' secrets and some 'Worry' secrets that we might have and how to deal with them.
KS1 Multi skills afternoon at Cockermouth School!
KS1 Football Festival
Our recent art topic was printing. The children learnt about and experimented with a variety of different printing techniques.
What a great day for Year 1 and 2 to do some Active Maths! Some of us were outside in the sunshine racing through the cones to collect different coins to make different totals of money. The rest of us were in the hall getting to know the numbers 11, 12 and 13 really well! We had to work out how many beans bags we would need to throw into each bucket or hoop to total 11, 12 or 13. We worked really well together in our teams and had lots of fun counting and getting active!

Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed learning the art of wet felting. We produced a fantastic picture inspired by our current topic of the Great Fire of London. We learnt about how to layer up the background, add the details of the picture, before spraying it with warm water, soaping it with our hands and finally rolling and squeezing all the water out.

We had to help Traction Man find the most absorbent material this week.
The children asked great questions and came up with a fair way to find which material would be the most effective at drying Traction Man.
Children’s Mental Health Week
The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Let’s Connect.
Class 2 have participated in a number of mood boosting workouts and activities to help us understand that connections with people are vital for our wellbeing.
The children loved the story of The Invisible String and identified many people in their lives that helped them when they needed reassuring or cheering up.
Year 2 Science
Year 2 were set the challenge of retrieving the paper clip from the bottom of a jar of water without spilling any water or getting their hands wet!
The children worked cooperatively in groups of 3 to select the equipment they could use to do this. The children tried a couple of methods before successfully retrieving the paper clip using a magnet attached to a length of string.
They used great scientific language to explain that “the magnet attracted the paper clip because it is magnetic.”

Investigating Materials and Describing the Properties of these Materials
Class 2’s science topic is Materials and Properties of Materials. We have identified the materials that everyday objects are made from and discussed why the material is suitable for the object.
We developed our descriptions of the properties of materials by hiding objects in feely bags and describing what we felt.
Super running skills in PE with Reece from Chance Camp!
Ordering timeline year cards in history. We picked out 1666 and talked about how long ago it was ready to start learning about the Great Fire of London.
Some great concentration and hard work has gone into learning to use the dictionary in class 2! We’ve been practicing alphabetical order a lot, which has really helped when finding the letters we need in the dictionary.

During our Jigsaw Journey this week we had a go at creating some freeze frames about recognising bullying and how to deal with situations. Some great body language and facial expressions class 2!
