Class 3 and 4 had a fantastic day at Brockhole! Tree Top Nets, adventure playground, picnic in the sunshine and an ice cream!

Class 3 have been working hard on their Young Leaders Award again. We are focusing on teamwork at the moment. We had great fun trying out some of these games where we had to put our teamwork skills to good use. Lots of giggles playing cooperation island and untying the human knot! 😂

Pet Encounters Visit - A Macaw in flight

As you can tell from these videos the children loved their animal experience with Pet Encounters.
The children were able to; feed a meetcat, hold snakes and lizards, see a tarantula up close and meet 2 hares.
It was a fabulous experience for the children and really informative thanks to the knowledgeable people of Pet Encounters.

YOUNG LEADERS AWARD! Class 3 have been very busy this week working on their Young Leaders Award. They had to plan and teach a special skilled activity to the younger children focusing on perseverance. The activities included dribbling a football, drawing animals, catching and throwing, tying laces and doing a bridge! Well done class 3, you were fantastic leaders in perseverance!

Investigating Shadows

We have been busy carrying out investigations to deepen our understanding of shadows.

We now know how we can change the size of a shadow and we can predict whether objects will give us a darker or lighter shadow.

We had a lovely afternoon on Friday with Kate from ‘Healthy Ways’. We looked at the different food groups and how they relate to the exercises that we do and how we live our lives. This week we looked at protein and how it helps our muscles to recover. We did lots of strengthening exercises likes squats and planks. We also had to make up some of our own strengthening activities in groups, which was great fun! We finished the afternoon off with some mindful yoga. We can’t wait for the next session! (Sorry there are so many photos, I couldn’t choose a few, the children look like they are having so much fun on them all!)

Class 3 made the most of the sunshine last week by practicing their football skills up at the field and finished a lovely afternoon off with a play in the park!

Class 3 are working towards their Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award. We are on our second module - Perseverance. Our starting activity proved to be lots of fun - persevering to get the treasures out of the ice! The children found this activity challenging, but did not give up! We had so much fun breaking the ice and letting it melt in our hands. Well done class 3 for persevering!

Beautiful collage work! Class 3 had to create a portrait of themselves using pictures they had collected. They wrote descriptions and then created the art work. Passers by in the hall have to read the description and see if they can match it to the picture portrait.

Class 3 took Collective Worship today. We performed a dance about perseverance and talked about times when we wanted to learn a new skill that we found tricky at first, but tried hard to achieve it! Well done Class 3, you were fab!

Investigating the area of rectilinear shapes

Through using informal units of measure the children investigated the area of rectilinear shapes. Through investigation many of the children quickly identified that they did not need to cover the whole surface of the shape with cubes in order to calculate the area. Great work Class 3!

Animal Magic!

We have been listening to how different composers describe different animals through music. We had to listen carefully to the melodies and how the notes were played to work out which animal was which. Then we decided to create our own using various percussion instruments! Can you work out what each animal is?
