(Psalm 119:105)
As a finale to our theme week activities the whole school took part is orienteering events up at the school field. This linked well with the concept of making decisions that each class has been exploring as part of our work on our school psalm “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
The children were taught the skills they needed by a team of experienced orienteers and they applied these skills to complete a number of courses set up on the school field. All had a wonderful time!
Nursery, Class 1 and Class 2 had great fun exploring the farm and paddling in Crummock water, appreciating our local area and the wonderful world God created.
Class 3 and Class 4 enjoyed exploring God's habitats and meeting a variety of God's animals during their time at the farm. To celebrate all the different habitats they experienced, the juniors created a loom, which weaved different natural materials together to create a beautiful effect. The children also enjoyed a sheep dog demonstration and time paddling in the lake.
Making Stained Glass Lanterns and Butterflies.
We talked about where we have seen stained glass before and how it is often found in churches. We looked at different images of stained glass and talked about the colours used. The older children enjoyed designing their own stained glass lantern by drawing on the liquid leading outline and then using glass paint to create colourful lanterns. The younger children created some beautiful butterfly suncatchers.
After thinking about our psalm and the meaning of “lamp to my feet and a light to my path” we discussed all the ways that God’s word may guide people through their lives. We then reflected on the beauty of God’s world and the situations in life where light adds to the beauty in God’s world. This led to us all making our very own kaleidoscopes and being amazed by the results of our creations.
We did yoga to calm the mind and prepare our inner selves to communicate with God in quite solitude.
Year 6 attended the annual Leavers’ Service for all the church schools in Cumbria .
The theme was ‘something inside so strong’ and looked at how Jesus is always by our side guiding us and supporting us as we start a new school and say goodbye to our old one.
We used silence by using a ‘thinking pebble’, our bodies by doing praise aerobics and finally songs to worship together.
We had a parade of school banners and each school received a ‘Leavers’ Candle’ to take back to our schools.
We were accompanied by Reverend Christina and Brenda our Foundation Governor.
After the service, we had a lovely afternoon with a picnic and a play in Bitts Park. It was so sunny we even had ice lollies to cool us down.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
