Art Intent
At St Bridget’s CE Primary School, we believe Art and Design should be fully inclusive to every child. Our intent is to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum, by providing broad and balanced experiences which provide a progression of knowledge and skills throughout their years in primary school. We will enable children to observe and record from first-hand experience and from their imagination, develop the children’s competence in controlling materials and tools and learn to become proficient in various art and design techniques and processes. We aim to develop an awareness and foster enjoyment of the visual and tactile elements of art and design including; colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space., We will develop a knowledge of significant artists, craftspeople and designers as well as increase critical awareness of the roles and purposes of art and design in different times and cultures. Children will learn to analyse works of themselves others and famous artists using the language of art and design.
Implementation
At St Bridget’s school Art is taught on a two year rolling programme covering the areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printing and textiles. These are either taught discretely or linked to various cross curricular topics throughout school. Each year group studies the works of at least one artist linked to a particular area of study.
Impact
Art and design learning is loved by teachers and pupils across school.. All children use technical vocabulary accurately and are confident to talk about art and design. They will be equipped with a wide range of skills and techniques to create different artistic creations and models. The children will know how to use and apply different tools for artistic effect. They will show resilience and perseverance by continually evaluating and improving their work.
Children will become more confident in analysing their work and giving their opinion on their own and other works of art.
